The Buber Lecture at the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities

On August 4, 2025, David Nirenberg visited the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Jerusalem to deliver his Martin Buber talk on “The Powers of History in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.” He discussed how Islam, Christianity, and Judaism have co-produced historical understandings that continue to shape both religious and secular views of the past, present, and future.

Dedicated to Martin Buber, the first president of the academy, lectures in this series cover humanities and social sciences, and are designed for both scholars and a broader audience.
